At WCC kids learn early that everyone is God’s beloved child.
WCC offers a wide range of educational programs for all ages. During the school year, we offer weekly Sunday school classes for children JK-6th grade.
JK/K: This program introduces children to the church and the Bible though stories and activities. It is led by a professional, salaried teacher.
1st-6th grades: Our elementary and middle school Sunday program is built around an annual theme. The curriculum is designed by professional teachers, and the classes are taught by parent volunteers, using the designed lesson plans. Our annual Christmas pageant is a highlight every year with over 100 children participating. Each spring our children have the opportunity to lead worship on Children’s Sunday.
5th & 6th Graders – Seekers ( Our Seekers ministry with our 5th & 6th Graders is currently on hiatus while we hire our new Director of Christian Education.)
Our Seekers ministry with our 5th & 6th Graders is currently on hiatus while we hire our new Director of Christian Education. It is our hope that this ministry will be up and running in the very near future, so please keep your eyes open for more information in the weeks to come.
7th Grade – Navigators
Navigators is our brand new ministry with and for our 7th Graders. In Navigators, we want to help our 7th Graders transition from being Church School students to being young adults in the faith. We will be doing this through hands-on, experiential projects that help 7th Graders grow in their faith, put their faith into action, and facilitate their participation in the life of the church. We have a great group of Faith Guides who will be journeying with our 7th Graders throughout the year and some great projects lined up.
8th Grade – Confirmation
In order to more effectively minister to and with our Confirmands, Confirmation has transitioned from being a two-year program to a more intensive one-year program for youth in 8th grade or above. The program is constructed to invite, inform, engage, and empower our Confirmands as they deepen their faith, feel scripture come alive for them, experience God’s movement in their lives, embody what it means to be Church, and discern whether to confirm their faith by joining the church. The course is richly conversational and interactive, and it draws directly on the particular gifts and personality of each Confirmand and of each class, as a whole. Accompanying our Confirmands are gifted Faith Guides who help our youth to navigate their deep questions in ways that are both deeply formative and fun.
High School: Servants
Anyone who is in high school is welcome to become a part of Servants, be they a member of Winnetka Congregational Church or a friend of someone who is. Servants affords its members a safe, caring place to process what is going on in their lives and in the world around them, and where they can simply be themselves in light of God’s love. The group’s members―and its energy― are active and engaged. As the name suggests, service is an integral part of this group’s DNA. As such, the group (and the pastors and Faith Guides who support it) invest a significant amount of time either responding to or creating new ways to serve, whether in worship, around our church campus, in the community at large, or far beyond our congregational walls.
