Gathering-Little Chapel

Before the beginning of the business portion of the Council Meeting, Council, Pastors and Staff gathered in Little Chapel for worship at 7:00 p.m.

Preliminary Matters

Steve Dyer, Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. after which the cares and concerns of the congregation were shared by the pastors.

A motion to approve both the January 9, 2007 and February 20, 2007 Council minutes was made by Jodie Stewart, seconded by John Bausch.  Motion to approve was unanimous.

Will McLean, Treasurer, reported that the 2007 Budget was approved at the congregational meeting on February 25, 2007.  He also reported that the Harris Bank has approved the church’s line of credit.

Business

John Bausch, Support Councilor, updated the search process. An ad has been placed in the Christian Century.  In addition to print ads, personal referrals and other sources are a part of the search process.  The committee is pushing to interview candidates April through June.  After the final selection of a candidate is made by the search committee, there will be a discernment process on the part of both that follows before any candidate will be presented to Council for consideration as Associate Pastor.

Steve Huels, Worship Councilor, reported on the preliminary recommendation of the Music Committee regarding Music Professionals.  The Music Committee has surveyed the choir to get their input.  Council then went into Executive Session to discuss matters related to music personnel.

Returning from the Executive Session to the regular Council meeting, Steve Huels gave an update on the all Church Survey.  The survey went on line March 14, 2007.  The number of responses will be tracked and a report on the survey will be available in early May.

A motion to move the annual meeting to June 10, 2007, following a single worship service at 10:30 a.m., was made by John Bausch, seconded by Chris Hurley.  Motion was approved unanimously.

The Chair asked Councilors to be sure and let the Nominating Committee known of any open spots in their group.  The committee is also looking for any job descriptions that various people might have.

Floy Schrage reminded Council members that their reports for the Annual Meeting are due in the office by May 1.

Betsy Holden, Education Councilor, and Chris Hurley, Outreach Councilor, moved and seconded that Council approve the 2007 Nominating Committee as follows:

          Support – Jean Henderson
          Outreach – Nina Johnson
          Nurture – Ann West
          Worship – Joanne Miner
          Education – Lori Kaplan

          At-Large – Harry Grace, Chair
                            Joan Kuzel
                            John Blix

The 2007 Nominating Committee was unanimously approved.

Interim Associate Pastor Connie Stewart reminded everyone of the up-coming Lenten Event with Elaine Pagels.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15.

Respectfully submitted,

Peggy McNamara, Clerk
