August 5, 2008 Back to Council Main Councilors present: Debbie Cogan, Steve Dyer, Susan Gillette, Bob Linn, Peggy McNamara, Brek Peterson, Jodie Stewart and Sarah Woodburn. Councilors absent:  Georgie Geraghty, Betsy Holden, Steve Huels and Jack Jadel. Pastors present:  Jenny Gleichauf and Bill Mueller. This special meeting of the Council was called to order by the chair, Steve Dyer, at 7:15 p.m.  Pastoral cares and concerns of the congregation were shared by the pastors followed by an opening prayer led by Associate Pastor Jenny Gleichauf. Debbie Cogan, Nurture Councilor, moved acceptance of the July 8, 2008 Council minutes. Council then moved into a discussion of the goals, objectives and action plans for the upcoming program year.  The chair called attention to the book, Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation, written by Robert Schnase which will be used to provide the foundation for this planning.  The emphasis of the book is about how to put adjectives of action before the five areas of hospitality, worship, faith development, mission and service and generosity – all cornerstones of a fruitful congregation.  For example: radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk-taking mission and service and extravagant generosity.  As a way of inviting members of the congregation to become energized and more involved in congregational activities, Council decided to have “Group Testimonials” in Sunday worship service according to the following schedule.                        Education:  September 14 and 21                        Support:  September 28 and October 5                        Outreach:  October 19 and 26                        Nurture:  November 2 and 9                        Worship:  November 16 and23 Copies of Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation will be available soon in the church office for members of Council. The first leadership meeting of the 2008-2009 program year will be held on October 7.  Subsequent meetings are scheduled for January 6 and April 7 of 2009.  Format for the October 7th meetings will include dinner and over-view, break-out interest group meetings and reconvening of the whole group to formalize and publish the plans.
