Gathering and Opening Prayer
Before the beginning of the business portion of the Council meeting, Council members, pastors and staff gathered in Little Chapel  for worship and prayer at 7:00 p.m.

Preliminary Matters
The  Chair, Steve Dyer, called the business portion of the meeting to order at 7:25 p.m.  He then asked  each  Council member to introduce themselves to Josh Sawyer, Director of Youth Ministries,  giving a brief summary of their church/council involvement.

Senior Pastor Joseph Shank announced that this year there will only be a single Easter Sunday Service at 10:00 a.m. due to the fact that Easter falls at the beginning of spring break.

Associate Pastor Jenny Gleichauf reminded Council  members  that this year’s Confirmands will be making their statements of faith before Council on Monday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m.  This Council meeting is in addition to the regularly scheduled one on Tuesday May 13th.
The Chair then asked for approval of the January 8, 2008 Council minutes.  Betsy Holden so moved, seconded by Jodie Stewart.  Approval was unanimous.

Business
Jodie Stewart, Outreach Councilor, presented a follow-up report on what the Mission Giving Committee is doing that was given at the January Council meeting.  They have reaffirmed their mission to provide funding to agencies that support human basic needs, identified as food, clothing, shelter, education and human rights.  A question for Council to think about is: What responsibility does WCC have to support its covenant groups, and what forms should this support take?

Brek Petersen, Outreach Councilor, reported that our involvement at the Good News Community Soup Kitchen continues and that the Mission Doing committee  is researching two programs dedicated to helping families is need: Room at the Inn and Family Promise.  More information about how WCC might become involved in these organizations is forthcoming.  Meanwhile, a handout describing the work of each agency was distributed for Council members to read.

A continuation of the discussion regarding staffing models begun at the January Council meeting ensued with Senior Pastor Joseph Shank describing the model currently is use.  This model entails the use of part-time staff and is working quite well.  Obviously the controlling factor in determining any church’s staffing model is predicated on its revenue stream.  Thus, in order for Council to have a free and  open  discussion regarding the budgetary implications of various staffing models  as well as other issues , Council moved into Executive Session.

Returning from Executive Session at 9:45 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.   A closing prayer followed.

Respectfully submitted,
Peggy McNamara, Clerk

Addendum

On March 11, 2008 a follow up Executive Session was held at the home of Betsy Holden.  The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the Chair, Steve Dyer.  Present at that meeting were Council members: Debbie Cogan, Steve Dyer, Georgie Geraghty, Betsy Holden, Steve Huels, Jack Jadel, Bob Linn, Peggy McNamara, Brek Petersen, Jodie Stewart and Sarah Woodburn.  Joseph Shank, Senior Pastor, was present for the early portion of the meeting which was adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
