Councilors present: Debbie Cogan, Steve Dyer, Georgie Geraghty, Susan Gillette, Steve Huels, Jack Jadel, Bob Linn, Peggy McNamara, Jodie Stewart and Sarah Woodburn. Councilors absent: Betsy Holden and Brek Peterson. Pastors and Staff present: Jenny Gleichauf, Bill Mueller and Floy Schrage. Opening Prayer and Gathering The Chair, Steve Dyer, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. after which Associate Pastor Jenny Gleichauf read a selection from Life is God- Sized, followed by an opening prayer. Preliminary Matters Pastoral cares and concerns of the congregation were shared by the pastors. A motion to approve the June 10, 2008 Council minutes was made by Jodie Stewart, seconded by Bob Linn. Approval was unanimous. In the absence of the Treasurer there was no financial report. Business Council then reviewed the 2008-2009 Events Calendar Draft. In reviewing the calendar the issue of the number of Council meetings came up. Heretofore, Council has met eleven times in a calendar year. This past year the number of meetings was reduced by two – eliminating the December and March meetings. After a discussion of the issue, it was the consensus of Council members that a return to meeting eleven times a year is preferable to nine times a year in order for Council to manage the church’s affairs effectively. Jodie Stewart moved, seconded by Bob Linn, that Council meet monthly, excepting the month of August. Motion passed unanimously. A discussion concerning group meetings followed. Groups are to meet at least quarterly and report to Council on a regular basis the work and activities of their committees. It was decided to initiate all-group pot-luck meetings, on a quarterly basis, this program year. Thus, all groups would meet on the same evening. Scheduled dates for these meetings this next program year are October 7, 2008, January 6 and April 7 2009 (all are Tuesdays). These dates were added to the Events Calendar. Councilors were urged to get back to the Nominating Committee with any open slots in their group as well as a job description for the slot. Jack Jadel, Support Councilor, circulated a sheet enumerating budgetary challenges facing the church that Council needs to be aware of in looking ahead to preparation of the 2009 budget. Since church Council members, both individually and collectively, have a fiduciary duty to manage WCC financial affairs in a prudent and cost affective way, a special Council meeting will be held August 5th to discuss management of the church’s financial affairs. Also, at this meeting goals for each group and Council will be determined for the upcoming program year. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m. followed by a closing prayer. Respectfully submitted, Peggy McNamara, Clerk
