Councilors present: Steve Dyer, Georgie Geraghty, Susan Gillette, Bob Linn, Peggy McNamara, Brek Peterson and Jodie Stewart. Councilors absent: Kimberly Brya, Debbie Cogan, Betsy Holden, Steve Huels, Jack Jadel and Sarah Woodburn. Pastors and Staff present: Joseph Shank, Jenny Gleichauf, Bill Mueller and Floy Schrage. Opening Prayer and Gathering The Chair, Steve Dyer, called the meeting together at 7:10 p.m. Acting Associate Pastor, Bill Mueller, then offered the opening prayer, followed by a reading from This I Believe by Senior Pastor Joseph Shank. Preliminary Matters Pastoral concerns of the congregation were shared by the pastors. Pastor Gleichauf announced that a baptismal service will be held at 8:45 a.m. on confirmation Sunday, May 18, in the Little Chapel for several of the Confirmands. Council members are invited to attend. Rev. Shank suggested that anyone wishing to make a contribution to relief efforts for the earthquake victims in China do so through Church World Services, a consortium of over seventy protestant churches known for doing an effective job. The Chair then asked for approval of the April 8, 2008 Council minutes. Georgie Geraghty, seconded by Jodie Stewart, approval of the minutes. Approval was unanimous. Floy Schrage, Business/Facilities Manager, called attention to the Variance report for the period ending April 30, 2008 showing current total income and Group expenses. She again called attention to the Variance report ending December 31, 2007 which shows a year end deficit of 4,247 as compared to the estimated 2007 budgeted deficit of 25,328. Business Council moved to a discussion of the proposed candidates for the annual Helms Award. Final voting by Council will take place by email with the recipient(s) being announced at the worship service on Sunday, June 8, 2008. After discussion, it was moved by Jodie Stewart, seconded by Bob Linn, to move the annual congregational meeting to Sunday, September 28, 2008, following worship, since Council missed the by-law requirement to post the upcoming slate of officers and Council members 30 days in advance of the annual meeting. A congregational meeting to hear Group reports and a current update of church business will be held Sunday, June 8, 2008 after worship. The motion to approve the date of both meetings was unanimously approved. The Clerk was instructed to issue a call the Annual Meeting, September 28, 2008 and the congregational meeting June 8, 2008. A notice of these meeting will appear in the upcoming Messenger. Pastor Gleichauf announced that June 1st is Baccalaureate and Choirs’ Appreciation Sunday.
