The meeting of the Council was called to order by the Vice-Chair, Susan Gillette, at 7:10pm. Pastoral cares and concerns of the congregation were shared, followed by an opening prayer led by Pastor Bill Mueller.


PRELIMINARIES

Leadership Positions

Susan Gillette thanked the outgoing Exec and Council members for their leadership and service and welcomed incoming members and those in new roles for the upcoming year. All positions for Exec and Council have been filled with one exception; Councilor for Outreach has been identified but not yet announced.

Steve Dyer telephoned in to thank Council for their work over his tenure and Council, Exec and Joe expressed their gratitude to him for his leadership and service.

Children’s Education

An update on Children’s Education was provided by Education Councilor, Georgie Geraghty.  Attendance in Church School on kickoff Sunday, September 6 was excellent with 90 children attending Church School.  Every Church School family received a contact over the summer by either Councilor Georgie Geraghty, Councilor Betsy Holden, Pastor Jenny Gleichauf or Pastor Bill Mueller. 

The new cooperative model for teaching was discussed and an additional training session for parent teachers is planned for September 14.  There are still teaching opportunities available and efforts will be made to gain greater involvement from the congregation for these teaching opportunities. 

 

August 5, 2008 Minutes

Bob Linn, Support Councilor, moved acceptance of the August 5, 2008 Council minutes and Jodie Stewart, Worship Councilor, seconded.  The minutes were approved.

Update from Pastor Shank

Joseph Shank informed Council of the following: 

-          Joe’s wife, Leslie Shank, will retire from her teaching position in June, 2009. 

-          Joe will not be retiring. 

-          Joe returned from his summer vacation refreshed and renewed in his spiritual leadership of WCC.

Financial

Support Councilors, Jack Jadel and Bob Linn, will work with Treasurer - Elect, Clyde McGregor, to prepare a detailed budget and plan for the remainder of 2008 and 2009. This will be shared at the October 14th Council meeting.

An update on Deferred Giving and Endowment needs to be discussed at a future Council meeting (date to be determined).

Executive Session

Council went into Executive session to discuss personnel matters from 9:00pm – 9:25pm.


BUSINESS

September 28 Congregational Meeting

The following items will be covered in the September 28 Congregational Meeting:

-          Pastor Shank will make a pastoral report.

-          Chair, Steve Dyer, will provide a year end report.

-          Treasurer - Elect, Clyde McGregor, will present a Treasurer’s report.

Committee Reports are due to Floy Schrage by September 15.  Floy will determine if any reports are outstanding from May and will contact the appropriate Councilors.

Group Testimonials

Testimonials will be given in Sunday Worship beginning September 14.  Education is the first testimonial. 


October 7 Leadership Meeting

The Leadership Meeting will focus on the Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation, by Robert Schnase.  Copies of the book will be available in the church office for Council members on Friday, September 12.  If not picked up, they will be mailed on Monday, September 15.

The October 7th Leadership Meeting will be two hours, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm, and will include dinner and two break out groups.  The outcome of the meeting will be the development of  1-3 objectives for the 2008-2009 program year for each Council group. 

The meeting adjourned at 9:55pm followed by a closing prayer led by Pastor Joseph Shank.
