Winnetka Congregational Church Council Meeting – January 12, 2010
Members present – Bruce Kelly, Carla Vorhees, Bill McKay, Jack Jadel, Jody
Stewart, Peggy McNamara, Michelle Ellensohn, Brek Peterson, Barb Fifer, Clyde
McGregor, Steve Huels, Susan Gillette, Bob Smith.
Staff Present – Jenny Gleichauf, Bill Mueller, Floy Schrage.
The meeting was opened with prayer and meditation by Bill Mueller.
Pastoral reports were presented by Jenny and Bill.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved as presented (Smith/Fifer).
Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Clyde McGregor reported that the 2009 financial
activity met the 2009 budget which was for an approximate deficit of $23,000 in
spite of the fact that actual pledges fell short for the year. A discussion of
the impact of the short fall followed.
Clyde presented the budget committee’s recommendation for the 2010 budget as a
motion with second for approval by the council. Questions were raised by council
members as to the method of determining the outreach commitment.
Steve Huels proposed an amendment to set the 2010 budget for all areas except
outreach at their actual levels in 2009. The motion failed for lack of a second.
Brek Peterson moved to amend the budget on a line by line basis
(Peterson/Huels). The motion was defeated 2-5 with 5 members voting “present”.
The recommendation of the budget committee was passed on a 7 to 5 vote.
Nominating – Susan Gillette announced that Bill Hayes has accepted the position
as chair of the Nomination Committee. Names for the balance of the committee
need to be sent to Susan by January 17.
The council was asked to make every effort to have a high attendance level at
next week’s leadership meeting.
The meeting was closed with prayer at 10:10 pm.
