Winnetka Congregational Church Council Meeting – January 10, 2012 Members Present – Peggy McNamara, Nick Schoewe, Steve Huels, Judy Archambault, Bob Smith, Bruce Kelly, Bob Linn, Patty Van Cleave, Chuck Dowding, Ed Katzman and Clyde McGregor. Staff in Attendance – Pastor Joseph Shank, Pastor Jenny Gleichauf, Pastor Bill Mueller, Business Manager Floy Schrage, and Youth Director Jamie Frasier. The meeting was opened at 6:40pm with reflections and prayer by Pastor Bill Mueller. Council Minutes -The minutes of the December 13, 2011 were approved as corrected. (Van Cleave/Schoewe) Financial Report – Treasurer Clyde McGregor advised that revenue was up substantially in December. The 2011 budget will be balanced. Budgeted expenses are at or below budget. Clyde thanked Steve and all those who had helped in achieving the outcome. Canvass Report – Canvass Co-Chair Judy Archambault reported that 205 pledges have been received to date for the 2012 budget totaling $854,000. Education Ministry – Chuck Dowding introduced representatives from the four groups that make up our education ministry activities. Each made a presentation of their programs. Adult Enrichment – Dinny Cosyns described the adult programs available on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings. The major theme this fall has been the study of the Book of John. Servants – Jamie Frasier described the theme set for this year’s youth activities. The program featured a fall retreat, Youth Sunday, Mission Trip Fund Raising, and group social outings. Sunday school – Heather Crimmins described the organization of thematic programming that has been created by Pastor Jenny Gleichauf and the Sunday school teachers. Confirmation – Donna McShea described organization of classes. There are two retreats a year. The program includes participation in service projects such as Night Ministries. A family night includes parents and younger children to allow Confirmands and their families to interact. Budget planning for 2012 – Clyde McGregor distributed the budget committee’s recommendation for the 2012 fiscal year. After discussion the council voted to accept the purposed budget for presentation at the congregational meeting on February 5. Pastor’s Reports – Joe Shank, Jenny Gleichauf, and Bill Mueller presented written pastoral reports. (Hand Out) Nomination Committee for 2012 – Steve announced that each ministry group needed to present two names for the committee. An additional 4 members will be recruited representing the congregation at large. Membership Committee – Council voted to create the committee reporting to council. Its members will include Bob Ebersole, Dinny Cosyns, Cynthia Churchwell, and clerk Bob Smith. (Linn/Archambault) Action Items – Judy Archambault distributed the action items list and updated.
