Our Faith

Imagine a place where people from a rich variety of faith traditions, creeds, and religions have found common ground and share with one another a supportive community working to make a difference in the world, a place where you will not find a dogmatic creed or even a list of beliefs that must be followed.

It is a place where you will find a group of diverse people attempting to learn together and grow in a faith that follows the way of Jesus Christ and honors other religious traditions and paths.

Welcome to the vibrant community that is Winnetka Congregational Church.

Profile
A Community Church

  • We are a Christian church which believes Jesus is the Messiah.

  • We are Trinitarian, believing in a God who is Creator, Christ and Spirit — a personal God of history who is neither male nor female, a Christ/Messiah who is the Savior of humanity, and the Spirit who empowers and sustains all life.

  • Our faith is biblical; we value both Old and New Testaments as expressions of God’s covenant with God’s people.

  • Our church is sacramental, believing that Baptism and Communion are vehicles of God’s grace, and acknowledging as sacred the rites we celebrate in our church: marriage, confirmation and ordination.

  • We believe in living out our Christian calling through active ministry — specifically with outreach to the community and greater world.

  • We are a seeking church — on the way to new discoveries, exploring what it means to follow where God might lead.

  • We are an inclusive community, welcoming all who seek to know God through Christ.
We are a Congregational Church located in Winnetka, Illinois, with a tradition since 1874 of service to Chicago's North Shore and communities beyond.

We have been called together by God, welcoming all, to worship and praise God in the name of Christ, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit; and to provide a nurturing environment for spiritual growth.

Since 1874, Winnetka Congregational Church has welcomed friends and others to worship, fellowship events, and outreach activities centered on the community in which we live.

Winnetka Congregational Church is a Christian community church, welcoming to worship members from many different denominations.

This diversity, along with strong pastoral leadership, contributes to an enriched worship experience and the opportunity for spiritual growth.

While we are not affiliated with a particular denomination, our historic ties are with the Presbyterian Church and the United Church of Christ.
