A Just Harvest’s mission is to reduce poverty and hunger in the Rogers Park neighborhood and the greater Chicago community by providing nutritious meals daily while building a just society through advocacy and collaborative relationships across racial, cultural and socioeconomic lines to promote the well-being of patrons served.
WCC has partnered with A Just Harvest for many years. In addition to the financial grants we provide, our ministry also includes:
- serving dinner the 1st Monday of every month
- purchasing and delivering holiday gifts to families via our Christmas wish tree
- a school supply drive at the beginning of the new school year
You can sign-up to serve at A Just Harvest and or/ shop for A Just Harvest ( The kitchen staff prepares the food. We’re asked to arrive by 5 P.M. to serve the hot meal and do a little clean-up. Usually we’re done before 7 P.M. The families who come to dine and the people who cook and manage the soup kitchen are worth knowing, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Usually we bring a minimum of four volunteers each month. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors to serve with you. Minimum age is 12 years old, although somewhat younger children (8 and above) can attend if they have one-on-one parent supervision. It is a good opportunity for family service.
