A Note from the Music Ministry

As the school year comes to an end, so does the time with our Music Interns, Erin Smith and Adam Hightower. We would like to thank them for the time and talents that they have shared with us.
Adam Hightower will be returning to his home in Texas to begin his career as a public school music teacher. While he would love to teach middle or high school choirs, he is presently exploring all levels of music education.
Erin Smith is moving to Cleveland, Ohio, where she will pursue a PhD. in Musicology at Case Western Reserve University. She will specialize in Renaissance and Popular Music, will continue singing, and will study voice with Early Music Specialist, Ellen Hargis.
We wish them both the very best as they move forward in their professional musical careers and will miss them at the church. Both will be singing in the Summer Choir through July so we invite you to speak with them on a Sunday morning.

Creating Safe, Accepting and Respectful Schools

That’s the theme of to 2010 Summer Institute sponsored by the School of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago through its Family and School Partnership Program.
This decade has been difficult for schools in every way. New mandates have heightened academic pressures on students and teachers. Families have experienced mounting economic concerns. Acts of violence and aggression have increased. In both urban and suburban schools, as well as their surrounding communities, these problems have created an atmosphere of anxiety for children, parents, and school professionals.
The 3-day 2010 Summer Institute (Wednesday, July 21 through Friday, July 23) will address these issues and empower you with new and creative ways to help your students, families, and schools cope with and grow from these challenging times.
Key note speakers are Patricia Arredondo, EdD and Margaret Weherenberg, PsyD, along with the following presenters: Georgia Boseday, EdD; Kerri Grossman, LCSW; Naomi Milstein, MSW, Elizabeth Perl, PhD; Verity Levitt Rodrigues, PhD; and Lindsay Schrand, School Psychologist.
Who should attend? Teachers, school administrators, school social workers, psychologists, and counselors. All are welcome.
Where? Loyola’s Water Tower Campus, 820 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago.
For more information go to The Summer Institute or contact Rev. William Mueller at  847-441-3400 x.23 for brochures.

Family Promise

Family Promise Chicago North Shore seeks a (volunteer) Volunteer Coordinator

Family Promise Chicago North Shore (FPCNS) needs someone to make sure that all of our volunteer slots (about 15-40 hours per week) are filled on an on-going basis. This includes speaking to and/or e-mailing our volunteers, and filling out the monthly schedules. It does not require volunteer recruitment or volunteer management.

Perhaps you’ve already been volunteering for FPCNS and, knowing how rewarding it is, you want to get more involved with the organization.

Perhaps you’ve wished to volunteer, but the hours haven’t been right.

If you enjoy organizing, enjoy talking with people, and have basic computer skills, this could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

For more information on FPCNS, visit www.fpcnorthshore.org
For more information on national Family Promise, visit www.familypromise.org
