A Special Goodbye

3 Mission Trips, 9 retreats, 3 pancake suppers, 2 confirmation classes, a number of sermons, 6 Youth Sunday’s and much, much more. It is hard to sum up all the ways Joshua Sawyer has inspired and ministered to and with our faith community these past 3 years.

On Sunday June 6 during worship we will say a special goodbye to Josh Sawyer, our Director for Youth Ministries for the past 3 years. Following the service there will be a reception for Josh and his wife Lexi. We hope you will come and thank Josh for his service to WCC and wish him well as he and Lexi prepare for their move to Omaha. If you would like to contribute to a gift for Josh, you can send a check to WCC with a note that it is for Josh.

Mission Moment

Among the 24 agencies that our Mission Giving team supports is Sembrando El Futuro, located at 1305 N. Hamlin in the greater Humboldt Park area on Chicago’s near northwest side where Aurelia Rosa is Director.
Sembrando El Futuro (“SELF”) is a cooperative effort of the First Congregational Church, SELF staff and families in the Humboldt Park area to provide alternative after school and Summer programs for children aged 5-13. SELF also works with the Chicago Area Project to support/supervise youth aged 13-17 in the Juvenile Justice Diversion Project.
WCC’s support has funded SELF’s summer all-day program in July for up to 30 children aged 5-13 years. The program takes the children to Morton Grove YMCA swimming pool twice a week, has two field trips each week to Chicago educational institutions (museums/zoos) and does learning/physical activities on the other weekdays.
For more information, you are encouraged to check out their website:

FAMILY PROMISE CENTER OPEN HOUSE

FAMILY PROMISE CHICAGO NORTH SHORE, launched in March, provides transitional shelter, home-cooked meals, and hospitality for families in homeless situations. We offer support in locating permanent housing, employment, and resources that families need in order to remain housed.  The FAMILY PROMISE CENTER is a key aspect of our network, and we are excited to show it to you.

Family Promise Center
1616 Payne Street, Evanston
Refreshments will be served.

Driving south on Green Bay, take a soft right on Ashland (just south of McCormick). One block south turn right on Payne. 1616 Payne is on your left in the alley behind Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall.  Look for balloons to guide you to the right spot!

RSVP by June 11 to fpcnorthshore@gmail.com

Family Promise Chicago North Shore is an interfaith network of congregations and social service agencies helping families in homeless situations.  Our goals are:

·         Quickly return our guest families to permanent housing.

·         Provide transitional shelter, nutritious meals, and hospitality while keeping families together

·         Ensure children in homeless situations regularly attend the same school as they had before their family faced homelessness.

Family Promise Chicago North Shore seeks a (volunteer) Volunteer Coordinator

Family Promise Chicago North Shore (FPCNS) needs someone to make sure that all of our volunteer slots (about 15-40 hours per week) are filled on an on-going basis. This includes speaking to and/or e-mailing our volunteers, and filling out the monthly schedules. It does not require volunteer recruitment or volunteer management.

Perhaps you’ve already been volunteering for FPCNS and, knowing how rewarding it is, you want to get more involved with the organization.

Perhaps you’ve wished to volunteer, but the hours haven’t been right.

If you enjoy organizing, enjoy talking with people, and have basic computer skills, this could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!
