ORGAN DEDICATION SET FOR APRIL

On Sunday, April 27, 2008, we will celebrate a very important event in the life of Winnetka Congregational Church:  the dedication of the majestic Martin Pasi pipe organ, Opus 18.  Music has always been a very significant and inspirational part of our worship services, and we look forward to celebrating the dedication of this landmark organ for the entire Midwest region by hosting several events on April 26, 27 and 28.

On Saturday, April 26, builder Martin Pasi and consultant Mark Brombaugh will host a lecture and demonstration explaining the design and special features of this organ.  All area organists and interested parties as well as our own church members are invited to this event.  Our regular Sunday 10:00 a.m. service will be a special service to dedicate and celebrate the organ which is a blessing to this congregation and will be instrumental in enhancing our worship as we experience the glory and beauty of God-with-us through music.  At 5:00 p.m. in the afternoon of Sunday, the Dedicatory Recital will be presented by Douglas Cleveland, Music Director of Plymouth Congregational Church, Seattle, Washington.  Dr. Cleveland has many ties in the Chicago area and served as member of the faculty of the Organ and Church Music Department at Northwestern University for several years.  He also traveled with the WCC Chancel Choir on its trips to England.  His recital will include works by Marchand, Bruhns, Bach, Vierne and Briggs.

Monday, April 28, will be a day of “Open Keyboard” for organists to register for half-hour time slots to play the new “Pasi.”  Call Mary Tondi in the church office at (847) 441-3400 ext. 10 to set up your time.  See www.pasiorgans.com for more information on the building and installation of Opus 18.
